In contrast to artists like Meredith Brooks, Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love (Hole), Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), and Shirley Manson (Garbage), Miss Angie diverged from the prevalent trend of capitalizing on the angry female/teenage angst that dominated the 90s generation. Instead, she unveiled a sound that is refreshingly distinct, blending a bubblegum quality with a positively aggressive edge. Released in September 1997, “100 Million Eyeballs” showcases this unique musical approach.
The album features numerous catchy tunes, with the self-titled track “100 Million Eyeballs” standing out for its tasteful infusion of disco vibes. Interestingly, the song draws inspiration from biblical references to the Four Beasts and the Seraphim described in Revelation 4:8 and Isaiah 6:3, where they are depicted as having six wings covered with eyes.

I had the pleasure of seeing Miss Angie twice, both unforgettable experiences at The Powerhouse in Taylors, SC back in 1998. It was actually my inaugural show at the venue. I vividly remember purchasing a cassette tape of “100 Million Eyeballs” and practically wearing it out from constant play in my car. Remarkably, twenty-one years later, I still find myself rocking out to her tunes to this day. This album holds a special place in my heart, and I absolutely cherish it.
